The Department of Modern Languages and Classics at The University of Alabama is accepting applications for a French Language Program Director (LPD) under a Non-Tenure Track Renewable Contract (NTRC). This a three-year renewable position with benefits begins at the Assistant Professor level and is subject to annual review with the possibility of promotion to Associate after the sixth year. In addition to evidence of exemplary teaching, the successful applicant must provide a record of ongoing scholarly activity in an appropriate field. The LPD will shoulder programmatic and departmental service tasks, including course coordination, personnel supervision, language-teaching methodology training, and curricular development. Native or near-native command of the French language required, as well as a PhD in an appropriate field in French at the time of appointment. It is expected that all courses will be taught in-person. Application should include a cover letter, CV, statement of teaching philosophy, and three letters of recommendation, one of which should address the candidate’s teaching. Start date August 16, 2021.
Application materials should reach the Department before April 30, 2021 when the review begins, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Because of COVID-related travel restrictions, all interviews will be conducted remotely using audio-visual technology.
